Underground art gallery with modern design and roof with lamps
German architects
Schneider + Schumacher
win with their project four years ago the competition for unique idea
as an underground art gallery with modern design created for the
Städel Museum,
which is located in Frankfurt. In February last year the museum, fully
restored again was officially opened with the main exhibition dedicated
to the centuries-old history of Western painting. First there were
presented 1,200 paintings and sculptures, a collection of artists of
contemporary art acquired over the past few years.
The design of underground art gallery in Staedel Museum
The modern underground art gallery expands Staedel Museum with 3,000
square meters, but also it changes the exterior of the museum. In the
central part of the garden of the museum there are 200 illuminated
circular lamps in diameter from 1.5 to 2.5 cm in-ground grains like
white peas, and they illuminate the underground halls of the modern art
gallery. Visitors can easily walk on the green lawn and step on the
glowing windows without worrying that they will break their integrity.
The interior of the art gallery is entirely in white to highlight the
artworks.
